Election Day

I know it's no longer election day for those of you reading, but it still kind of is for us! Starting at 3am our time (so 7pm CST), computers were out and people were checking news sites when they got up to go to the bathroom. Once 5am came and our alarms went off, the texts from significant others started. We spent the first few hours texting back and forth across site and to the US, sending out the latest info. As soon as Mittens conceded, there was some cheering from all over the tell. The workers thought we were a little nuts, but we are all THRILLED for 4 more years! Even the Aussie, the 2 German gals and Monsieur Greg got into the excitement (though Greg and Nadine both have green cards, so who won really affects them, too).

Once that died down, it was business as usual for most of the day: photos in the morning (though it was overcast all day, so I didn't get too many done), then bread stats. I'll probably finish those up tomorrow- hurray!

The afternoon is where it got interesting. The overcast sky turned to darkening rain clouds and around 3, the sky opened. Not only was there rain, but massive wind. The dust kicked up all around Tasha and I and we scurried to batten down the hatches. This year, we have beautiful tents we're working under, but the dingbats who designed them didn't put in any wind ventilation holes, so the things basically act as giant wind sails. We quickly called the house and Nadine and Greg ran over while we tried to hold the 3 big tents in place. We were able to get the covers off of them once all 4 of us could help, so everything is safe. The day had to wrap up early since we couldn't work, so that was kind of a bummer.

Tonight we plan to celebrate the Obama victory, and since we just found out all the good news regarding gay marriage, we'll be celebrating that, too! Hurray having a dig where we all share the same politics! :)

PS- 4 years ago, Dan was in London for the election. This year, I was in Egypt. I think we may have to keep doing the one-of-us-out-of-the-country thing, since it seems to work so well.
